Stained Glass Class For: 6 weeks, 3 hours per week
Whether a Beginning or Advanced Artist come and learn the core foundation skills in stain glass design, materials, tool use, soldering skills and Patina applications. All classes will be geared towards all levels of skill, so come have fun and create your own beautiful art.
Projects may include, but are not limited to sun catchers, window panels, jewelry boxes, picture frames, and other decorative items.
As a beginner in the Stained Glass Class, the instructor will provide you with knowledge & guidance through the basics of a stained glass project. You will be guided through the complete process of doing your project. The first night of class will be an introduction to instructor/s, other students, review of the safety & class packet, practice cutting and grinding sample glass. It is very important you attend the first class!!! Instructor will give you a brief overview of the history of stained glass, glass types, materials used and review tools and equipment you will need for class. Please do not buy anything prior to class.
Initial tools/items needed for beginner projects (The following basic tools will cost approximately $35.00 – $75.00):
• Glass cutter, cutting oil
• Breaking pliers (Grozer and Breaker)
• Permanent markers (Sharpies Black & Silver)
• Ruler, Pushpins, Band-Aids, scissors
• Project board
• Glass will range from $8.00 – $20.00 per square foot (most beginning projects involve 3 – 4 square feet of glass, with pieces left over for future projects)
• Flux, solder and foil, which will cost approximately $30.00-$45.00
• Finishing materials and chemicals. (varies in cost depending on project ($10-$20)
The following items are provided for student use:
• Grinder
• Foiler
• Came saw
• Ring Saw
• Specialty equipment as needed
Instructor/s will discuss resources for purchasing and cost saving options.
There are also many additional on-line sources that the students may locate by searching for “stained glass”.
